When Might You Consider Equine Chiropractic Care?
Changes in a horse’s movement, mobility or performance can occur for many reasons. Horse owners may consider equine chiropractic care when they notice changes in how their horse moves, carries itself or performs during regular activity, training or competition.
Stiffness or changes in overall movement
Difficulty bending or working evenly in both directions
Changes in stride or gait
Reluctance with movements that were previously comfortable
Changes in posture or body carriage
Changes in athletic or competitive performance
Uneven movement or favouring one side
Changes noticed during training or rehabilitation
Age-related changes in mobility and movement
Changes in movement, behaviour or performance can have many possible causes. Equine chiropractic care is intended to complement, not replace, appropriate veterinary care. New injuries, significant pain, illness or sudden changes should be assessed by a veterinarian.
Experience With Horses & Equine Athletes
Dr. Mishka Thomson completed her Animal Chiropractic Certificate in 2012 and has worked with both small and large animals ever since. Her equine practice includes recreational and companion horses as well as horses involved in training and competition.
Working with horses of different ages, disciplines and activity levels, Dr. Mishka adapts her approach to the individual animal. Her assessment considers how the horse moves and functions as a whole, along with its workload, activity level and individual needs.
An equine chiropractic appointment begins with a discussion of your horse’s history, activity level and any changes you have noticed in movement or performance. Dr. Mishka then observes the horse’s movement and performs a hands-on assessment to help determine an appropriate approach to care.
Each horse is assessed individually, taking into consideration factors such as age, discipline, workload, activity level and any veterinary or other equine health care they may be receiving. Dr. Mishka will discuss her findings with you and answer questions about your horse’s care.
